I am home sick and to make me feel better, my husband is watching Doctor Who with me. Not normal Doctor Who, but reconstructed version of the lost stories “Power of the Daleks” and “The Highlanders”. What do you do when you aren’t feeling well?

My world was shattered on July 2, 2012. Very close friends of ours, family if you will, experienced one of the worst days imaginable. I received a text from Bryan (Gavyn’s dad) that Aimee (Gavyn’s mom) and Gavyn had been in a horrible car accident. By the time I made it down to Children’s Hospital, I found out that Gavyn had a severe spinal cord injury. At 3 years old, Gavyn’s life changed in an instant. My little buddy made it to the hospital, however he was paralyzed from the neck down. He has gone through surgeries that the doctor’s said he would not live through… but he is still with us. He is the bravest little boy I have ever met and the fact that we still get to see his smile is a miracle. I have written a few articles about his fight and he has been showcased on local news channels.
A little bit about Gavyn: He LOVES The Avengers and Big Bang Theory. When you ask him why he loves The Big Bang Theory so much he simply mouths one word…. Penny. Seeing him watching that show and smiling is the most beautiful thing you have ever seen.
If you would like to find out more about Gavyn, send words of encouragement, donate or just follow his progress, please visit www.friendsforgavyn.com .

Hello all! Many of you know me from my columns with Examiner.com. If you do not know me, I am Heather Maloney. I am the National Doctor Who Examiner, National Geek News Examiner and Denver Sci Fi Examiner. While writing articles about topics that I love is great, I rarely get a chance to let loose and talk freely about things. I am a nerd… a geek. I love Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, Sherlock, Firefly, Psych and Supernatural. My music tastes are considered crazy by some. I love The Monkees, Pink Floyd, Take That (new stuff, not really 90’s boy bad stuff), Keane and Oasis. I will post my articles on this blog as well, however I will also post things that are going on as they happen. I am really looking forward to blogging about my travels and adventures for my Examiner.com columns. I have some pretty awesome interviews lined up for Gallifrey One this year so stay tuned. If you are going to any place that I am at, feel free to say hi! I love meeting fans like me and talking about my passions. Luckily, my husband Tom shares my love for Doctor Who, just maybe not to the same crazy obsession level as I do. Please stay tuned for some crazy babble and fun as you join me in my first blog!
Your friend in fandom,
Heather
